COUNTENANCE OF A HERO

Count Murciélago, a bat-mage with light sensitivity and visual impairment, possesses an extraordinary gift: the ability to detect powerful mage pressure from half a world away. Tormented due to his own weak mage pressure, Count attends the Academy to become stronger like his missing idol, the legendary mage Rogue Lion, and prove to society that he’s more than a rodent with wings. Once he’s there, though, Count struggles to find his place.

When Count senses the most powerful mage leading a human rebellion to destroy all magekind, the headmaster recruits him to find Rogue, believed to be the only mage capable of defeating the uprising. With the world’s two moons approaching an eclipse, Count has only five days to crush the rebellion, or the Academy will face destruction. Using his journey to change his destiny, Count discovers love from a man in the most unlikely place and the oppressive true reason the Academy was founded. He must decide between becoming the Academy’s hero and earning himself a place of prestige in a broken society, or becoming the people’s champion, potentially sacrificing his life and that of his newfound love for a future that may never come to fruition.
